MIME and HTML are methods of formatting E-mail in order to give a certain effect when
the mail is received. Most of the newer mail clients can read it properly, but
the digest will often pick it up as a virus and block both the message and the
user!
The way you choose your format varies by the method to use when you send
E-mail. Try checking under TOOLS or PREFERENCES. You are looking for an
options box which will allow you to send mail as PLAIN TEXT or UUCODE. If you
can't find it, try your help button, or look in the manual.
Your computer may be sending messages to the digest of the QuiltersBee list in MIME format. Your message will have
this comment inserted in it, along with a bunch of other junk:
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
The robot that runs our digest cannot send out this kind of file so it chops it
up and sends code which can double or triple the size of your message..
This may cause it to perceive a virus, in which case you will be unsubscribed.

Fancy and Pretty stuff in email posts like:
1] borders on stationery
2] colored font
3] italics
4] bold
5] 3-D font
6] special characters
7] business cards
8] attachments [documents and images]
should tip you off that your machine is going to be "SENDING IN MIME."
This code will attach to your E-mail and will tell you what is turned on

Sometimes "SENDING IN MIME" is set as a default in an application and
when you up-grade or reboot it resets.
Some applications also let you reply in the same format: SO if someone else's machine sent MIME and you click "reply to" that message yours will
send in MIME too.
MICROSOFT EMAIL PROGRAM:
On the properties of each addressbook page in your email program is a check box that says "send mail to this address in plain text." click it and
click OK.
other ways to make the change in MICROSOFT:
1] change FORMAT to "plain text" to turn it off.
2] OR In "ADDRESSBOOK" "PROPERTIES" there is a box to choose "plain text only to this recipient."
3] OR in "TOOLS" "OPTIONS" choose SEND "Plain Text"
[this last one sends plain text to everyone you post to]
4] turn off "reply in same format" in "TOOLS" "OPTIONS"

NETSCAPE EMAIL PROGRAM:
If you open your "ADDRESSBOOK" open "PROPERTIES" of card
(ie QuiltersBee Message Board) and make sure the box "prefers to receive in
rich text (HTML) mail" is not clicked it should send "PLAIN TEXT."

AOL
AOL 6.0 sends all messages in MIME. The only way you can post if you
have upgraded to AOL 6.0 is to do it through their website, http://www.aol.com
An AOL tech support person suggested this, although I have not tried it:
click settings, click preferences, click Fonts-Text-& Graphics, click Reset,
click Save.

JUNO
Click Edit/View As/Plain text. However, if you put in anything in html
(like a clickable url) the message will go out in MIME unless you go and change
it to plain text. Requires remembering to check how the email is being
sent, but it will make things easier for those on digest/getting email on slow
connection long distance phone line.
