Instructions courtesy Rosemary Eichorn and Ranny Martin
Cut a strip 5" X 10" and mark the center lengthwise. On one side
mark off every 2 1/2" and on the opposing side starting in the center of the
first square, mark off every 2 1/2". Cut away the end rectangles and then
cut to the center on the marked lines. The picture on the left is a
thumbnail, click on it to see it close up.
There are several methods for folding the prairie points.
Method 1
Fold the top squares on the diagonal from left to right and then fold the triangle down to form a point. Fold the bottom squares from right to
left on the diagonal and the fold them again. Fold along the center line bringing the bottom triangles to the back of the top triangles.
Slightly open the back triangle and bring the open piece forward to tuck over
the top triangle. The picture to the right is a thumbnail, click on
it to see it close up.
Method 2
Fold the squares into rectangles and then bring the outside edges to the center to make triangles. Fold the bottom triangles up behind or in
front of the top triangles to form prairie points. You may have the center
"pockets" visible on one side only or form your band to have every other
point plain by the way you choose to fold the points together.
The size of the points, the length of the band may be adjusted to fit
your
needs and the measurement of your quilt top.
