Good morning everyone, My name is Theadra, and I'm from Michigan. I
started quilting in 1997; I'm self taught, 52 in April, have 2 wonderful
grands, a cat, and too many WIP'S. Im in the process of changing things in
the house: adding wood floors, tiling the kitchen, so I haven't have time
or space to work on any projects. I started a new wall hanging for the
kitchen, that has columns of flying geese on the very colorful Hoffman
butterfly print that came out last year ( I think). Since I'm also
changing the colors of the walls throughout the house, I hope to finish
the WIP'S and hang them on the walls.
I am from CT. my name is Marcia and am 59 years old. Have been quilting
seriously for about 12 years, along with working full time (Nursing ).
Working on a project for our past president/and past secretary to make
quilts for them in "thanks" for their work.... Belong to a great
guild in Branford CT, called the Shoreline Quilters. Married with 3
daughters and 3 granddaughters. Guess that's all. Love hearing about what
everyone is doing. Thanks for sharing... And everyone have a wonderful
Valentine's Day.... And of course it is snowing again in CT, what else is
new!?!? Marcia
I'm Elaine, think I"m 43 (always have to calculate that - denial
perhaps). I do commission quilts and currently have 5 in some order of
completion. I also teach quilting at a LQS and am booked up until October.
I have tons of samples to make for classes. In between, I squeeze in an
occasional quilt for a gift and ourselves.
Well hello from Fayette Iowa, I am 44 years old an have been quilting
for around 27 years on an off. I will say I grew up under the quilting
frame. Every winter my mother put up the frame in the front room and it
was set up so that one chair and the sofa were left to sit in. Well being
one of the younger family members we were religated to the floor under the
frame. So that lets me say I grew up under the quilting frame.
Hi, my name is Joan, I am 34 yrs. old, and have been quilting for
about 4 years. I am a part time social worker, a full time mom to a
gorgeous 5 year old dtr and two grumpy cats. I have been married for 12
years. Currently I am hand quilting a "yellow brick road" quilt.
I am also following along a BOM with my guild of different 12" stars.
I just love to quilt, it is my sanity time.
Kris, age 49, three daughters, one of whom SHOCKED me by giving me a
cross stitch she had made for Christmas. This is my military daughter who
takes so much after her father that I would question her maternity if I
hadn't been there. There is *something* of me in her after all! Kris
in not-as-cold-as-it-was-last-week Esperance NY.
Hello from Arizona-----a recent transplant from Alaska, where I lived
when I became a member of this list. I am Joanne-52 years old and a
quilter for many many years. I enjoyed quilting and quilting friends in
Alaska for more than 15 years and now am creating my quilted treasures in
Ariziona. I love to work with traditional blocks and produce many pieces
with star blocks-my favorite. I am currently participating in a challenge
and a row by row exchange, as well as exploring some applique blocks, the
result of my FIRST applique class. Greetings to all from warm and sunny
Arizona, where I am thawing out!!!
Good morning Bee's from foggy cool northern california ; I am Jeanne ;
I am 48 years old and I started quilting about 20 years ago as time
permitted while raising our children and working ; I have always loved
making traditional quilts and the last few years after taking a color
workshop I have been making scrap quilts that are alot of fun watching the
different colors blend together . I go to as many quilt shows as possible
and my favorite part of my quilt guild meeting is the show & tell of
the other members creations .
My name is Lynne and I'm 48. I have a 9 year old daughter who I'm
teaching to sew and quilt. I live in Jacksonville, Florida and have been
quilting about 12 years.
I am 61 years old and have only been quilting for 2 years yet I have
managed to accumulate quite a few UFO's. I am determined to complete most
of them this year. I am currently working on stipple quilting (by machine)
a Yellow Brick Road quilt for one of my grandsons. When I finish that I am
going to work on a quilt made with retro fabrics which I bought as a
kit...I can't wait to get started on that!! Oops, I guess those UFO's will
have to wait around a little longer. We are having a cold, but fairly snow
free, winter here in the Chicago, Illinois area.
Judy in Ringoes, NJ judygrow@rcn.com -age 62 -own and manage a picture
framing store. -quilter for 20 years, or thereabouts -most interested in
quilt and textile history. -Married 37 years, 2 grown sons, 1 grand
daughter.
answering roll call, I am Deanna aka ande, and I live on the Ohio River
in Ky. I started serious quilting about 25 years ago when my family of 4
teenage boys did not need me looking over their shoulder all the time, and
I could spend time with my Mom. She had always wanted to make a Crazy
Quilt and had been making crossstitch blocks for quilts to keep her hands
from freezing up with arthritis. A guild was forming and she wanted me to
go with her. We did and the rest is history.
hi everyone. I am Kathy from southern Ontario, Canada. It's very cold
here... minus 25 this morning (that is celsius degrees, don't know what it
is in fahrenheit). I am 40 something years old and have been a member of
this group for a few years, although I usually "lurk" (which
sounds so unsavory, but it's more like I am soaking up the positive
creative energy!)
My name is Steinunn, age 46 and I have been quilting for 9 years, My
main project now is an I spy quilt for my 16.m old granddaughter. Steinunn
from Iceland.
Hey Girls, Anither hectic lurker here! Well, I'm from Ontario Canada
and I know that there are at least 2 Bee's from The Great White North who
are very cold and needing to get some quilting done! Kimberley Illman
I'm Val from Winnipeg and it's been very, very cold here. I have been
mostly lurking as I've been busy with meetings with government people,
etc., over issues around disabilities. We have four adopted boys with
special needs, 6 grown children between us, 11 grandchildren and another
one on the way in August and a son who passed in 1987 at birth. Val Surbey
It's cold in South Dakota, last time I looked was 7 degrees with snow
on the ground. I am working on LOTS of things, a leaf quilt made from
batik fabrics, a tree of life (sort of), have a grandmother's flower
garden top done (2,377 little hexagons, all hand pieced) and lots of UFO's
that need to come out and finished. I am 46 years old with one daughter in
college this year, and my husband and I also have one foster child with
another coming in March. Lori in South Dakota
Terri, in Erie, PA, the third snowiest city in the US this year!!!
Sorry about that, South San Francisco, CA. Since my first roll call I
have 2 UFO's ready to go out to be machine quilted. Slowly but surely.
Getting some of my fabric stash used up and getting UFO's done. After
reading all the other roll calls sure am glad I am in sunny California.
Stella
I am Sandy from No. Calif. Have been quilting for about 7 years and
love applique. My current and very looong project has been "The Blue
Collection". I am in the process of handquilting it now and finally
see an end in sight. My DH has been patiently waiting for a family photo
quilt, which will be my next project. Also, I have some awesome Japanese
fabric and looking for a special pattern to use them - any one have some
suggestions? Oh forgot (or want to forget) that I am 64 and have been
sewing since age 11.
I want to be counted (can you see me with my hand waving and me
saying.."oo,oo,oo(rhymes with moo)!!!! I have been quilting for 5
years but the last 2 years I have taken quilting seriously, meaning I am
MAKING time for it, not squeezing it in anymore. It feels to good not to
do it!! I am 40 y/o and have a 16y/o DD, and my DS is 12. My DH
understands my need to quilt so therefore I understand his NEED to golf! I
need 4 quilts done this year so went into my toppers and found one of the
first quilts I did it is a QIAD-court house steps and it will do fine for
a nephews wedding! ( I feel so smart!) It is starting to warm up here in
NE so need to take my dog Bon Jovi Millionaire for a walk. (16 y/o named
him) Jae in the basement (by choice)
Hi! My name is Kathy. From Iowa. Am 60 years old, recently retired
after 28 years as an Extension secretary. Belonged to the original 'QuiltBee'
group almost from its conception. Since retiring, have been cutting out
some quilts, organizing the STASH, spending time with the Gkids and pretty
much doing exactly what I feel like. What a change!
I am Carrie, age 44, a Southerner, freezing her tail off in NE Kansas
(Lawrence)! I have been quilting off and on(more off) since I left the
military in 88, but have been sewing and doing needleworks since I was 5
or 6 Carrie In the Land of Oz
I am 51, quilting seriously for 5 years but have been sewing since I
was 12 years old. Like many of you, I sewed when the kids were small but
once the girls were teenagers I quit sewing for them and myself. I still
enjoy home decorating projects though, like curtains, dust ruffles and
pillows. I prefer piecing over applique. I LOVE to dye my own fabric.
Currently, I am working on "Rhubarb Twist" , an old pattern from
Terry Atkinson. My UFO's include several quilt tops that just need to be
sandwiched and quilted. I try not to start a new project until a quilt top
is completed. It is cold in Milwaukee today but we have had the strangest
winter. Every snow storm has passed us by this year and we have NO snow on
the ground. Jan
This is Fran, age 60, checking in from Western North Carolina's
mountains. I have been quilting at least 25 years and make lots of quilts
for family members and their friends. I hand quilt all of my quilts with
the exception of two extra large king size tops. For every quilt I make
for someone I love I try to make one for someone who has no one to love
them. Hope I have spread a little love in the world. DH and I lived south
of Houston, Tx. for nearly 59 years before moving to NC to get to see
snow...careful what you wish for least you receive it....
My name is Helen aka Crafty Grama and I am 68 years old. I live in very
cold Johnson City, N.Y. I have been sewing since before I started school.
My Grama sat me down beside her sewing machine and gave me a needle and
thread and showed me how to sew up a dress for my doll. Now I am making
doll clothes for my DGGDs baby dolls. I will be married to my second
husband for 35 years in Nov . I have five grown children, ten grand
children, and eight great grand children. At this time most of these
people are living in Calif, Nev, and Arizona. Now you know where I go for
my vacations.
Hello from Inverness, Fl. where we are COLD, but so happy with the Bucs
Superbowl win!!! My name is Karol, I turned 48 on Christmas Eve.
Have been quilting since 1978, around 25 years now. I am working on two
photo quilts for family members, and a simple star quilt with bright
colored birds on a black background. The birds will be 'plain' squares
alternating with brightly colored stars.
My name is Maree St Clair and I live in Strathfieldsaye, Central
Victoria, Australia. Aged 43 (last Thursday 23rd) I have been quilting for
about 8 years and thoroughly love it. I have taught classes in patchwork
for about the last five years. The last two I have been teaching here at a
Patchwork shop in Bendigo called Attic Crafts. I am about to launch my own
range of patterns and I am to be published in Homespun Magazine this
coming July. (an exciting if not nerve rcking time!) I am married to a
wonderful patient man called Dennis and have four sons, Michael 17, Mark
16, Scott 14 and Andrew 7. (THerefore you have my inspiration for
quilting, I need something girlie)
Anyway nice to chat to you all, I love reading your emails! Maree in
hot, hot, hot Victoria where a lot of the state is in bushfire turmoil.
There has been 100,000's of acres of bush and forest lost. We are living
with constant smoke haze and we are a long way from the fires ourselves. I
envy your snow!
I'm Dotty Gay, 63, and I've been quilting for about 5 years. I live in
northwest Florida where lately it's been cold during the day and freezing
temps at night. Presently, I'm making hand appliqued flower blocks. Not
sure if I'm going to use them as a wall hanging or a lap robe! LOL It sure
is interesting reading about other Bees and what they're doing. You all
stay warm!
Hi, My name is Ann, I'm 50 and I live in Calvert County, MD. At the
moment I have several quilts going. I love all the different things I'm
working on but I see new fabric and I just gotta start something new. One
day I'll finish them all, maybe! Ann
Mercedes, 36, from Lawrence, Kansas.
I am 50 and live in Sweden. I have two UFO, bargellos that are not
sandwiched and quilted yet. I am in a period of not wanting to do anything
at all right now but I hope that will change soon. Ann-Marie Lördal,
Sweden

Her great, great aunt embroidered 50 state blocks in the 1940s and I'm
joining them with sashing for her.
My name is Chris, I turn 50 on the 30th and I live in N. Central
Florida. I have been sewing since I was 15 and discovered quilting about
15 or so years ago. We are expecting our 2nd grandchild in May and I am
working on a rag quilt baby quilt.
Hi, I'm Chris, just turned 50 this past September, and it is below
freezing here in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Lots of UFOs in my sewing room,
but am currently struggling to finish quilting a quilt my (now) 14 year
old daughter designed of Roman stripe blocks in black and various shades
of purple.
Hi I'm Shannon. I'm 32 and I'm working on my first commissioned quilt.
It's all pieced and basted--now I'm trying to think of how I want to quilt
it. I'm also working on a baby quilt for my cousin's first baby--due in
April. It's bitter cold here in Maryland this morning at a rigid 19
degrees...brrrr! keep quilting, shannon in md.
Hi! I'm Tracie and I'm 32. I'm finishing up quilting a quilt for
nephew, with the Road to Arkansas block. This will finish up my
niece/nephews (for now) - a total of 7 quilts over this last year! I'm
looking forwarding to starting a quilt for me next!
Hi my name is Blendia I live in NJ , I am 68. I am hand quilting a
queen size TrueLovers Knot for one of my granddaughters. I am making
quilts for all of my grandchildren, I have 6 granddaughters and 3
grandsons.
My name is Patty, I am 39 and I am right at the moment hand quilting
the border of a 3 dimensional Violet wall hanging (Joan Shay pattern). I

at them one by one. They are all in different stages. Oh, in upstate NY it
is -2 this morning!
Hi. I am Synnove, 64. I am going to a Kaffe Fassett class in Norway
this weekend, so I am working on his Hat Box Quilt.

I'm Shannon and I'm 37. I live in Singapore, but I'm a Houstonian. I've
been quilting for about 10 years. I'm working on... 4 Yellow Brick Road

start on the girls.Dear Jane that I'm hand piecing and it's going very
slow.
Getting ready to start hand quilting a top that I did for my 30th
birthday.
I'm Jamie and I'm 49 and holding. I'm presently working on a Irish
chain quilt for my daughter's bed and valances for my LR and kitchen. Also
making pillow cases and bean bags in my spare time. Trying to survive the
cold Chicago land -24 degree wind chill this am. A great day to stay
indoors and quilt. I was very surprised to see so many young ladies
involved in quilting. Happy Quilting Jamie
I'm Wendy, 42, and I've been quilting for 12 years. I'm finishing up a
mystery quilt that I started last spring at a quilting retreat in Colorado
hosted by Jackie Robinson. The pattern is called A Piece in Time by Sandy
Heminger. It will be a lap quilt for my living room. I live in Chicagoland,
where it has been too cold for too long!
Hi, Bees, I'm Linda ... 54 years old, I've been quilting for 10 years.
Right now I'm trying to overcome my reluctance to work on and FINISH the
Quilt From Hell (one of those that just refuses to do anything right!)
It's a king-size pieced bed quilt for my DDIL, with block designs and
fabrics she chose. I was supposed to get it to her this past Christmas,
but just can't get it finished. I have "unsewed", re-thought,
re-arranged, and downright started over on this quilt more than I ever
thought possible. If I can ever get the top finished, I can put it on my
new Gammill Long Arm Quilting Machine. At that point I will be very happy!
Hi - I'm a fairly new quilter - took it up after retirement from a
stressful job. I just finished my second baby quilt in a couple of months.
The first was for a new granddaughter in October - that one was all pink
and white, using Beatrix Potter fabric. The second was for a new grandson
born 12/18. Not knowing his sex before he was born, it was a tumbling
blocks design in blue and yellow. I backed both of them with a cotton
flannel, which the babies love as it's so soft on their skin. Nancy Eddy
I'm 72 and I have 2 main projects - a scrappy double wedding ring and
finish hand quilting a whole cloth quilt that I have been working on for 2
years. Betty in Central Calif
Hello! From the frosty cold Oklahoma Panhandle. I am currently working
on a bright "Plaid Pig's" appliqu. The pigs are my first appliqu
and It's not as bad as I thought. I have about 15 UFO/WIP and I am working
on those. I went to an estate sale and It was so sad to see someone's
fabric thrown on the driveway in trash bags. I am only 44 but I want to
get caught up and stay there. The last thing I finished was to replace the
binding on an antique quilt I found at the trash dump. My d-mil hand
quilted it and then bound it in polyester. I love it now. Susan
I'm Debbie, I'm 41. The main project I'm working on is a twin-size
quilt for a baby that
is coming in May. It is a double Irish Chain. It started out being in
bold colors that were not babish (because I want the quilt to be useable
for many years to come). It ended up being red, off-white and blue. My
daughters picked the fabric.
Hi - my name is Susan and I am 55. Currently working on some rag
quilts, quilted jackets, and a round robin (due on Feb. 19). Currently
trying to stay warm a(-10' this am at my house in MO).
I am Carol and am 60 years living in frigid OKLAHOMA. I am presently
cutting out Rail Fence.
I'm 69 (till June), have been quilting for about 10 yrs, and am working
on a quilt that I started in a seminar with Jackie Robinson last Nov. It
is called Eureka ! A design Jackie created. It is turning out more
beautiful than I had hoped. It is queen-sized and I guess I'll try
quilting it
myself on the machine. I need to get a back for it - need 8 yds! In the
meantime,
I'm quilting on a quilt for our dog (yes ... dog). It is a cute quilt
with a dog pieced into the quilt. I think it is a pattern by Billie
Lauder. Hugs, Jan
Hi! I'm Terri in NW PA, 50 years old, and working on a stained glass
table runner for Christmas.
I'm also finishing up some general sewing - nighties and an apron. Next
is classes on Martha Pullen's heirloom technique quilt! Looking forward to
that!
Hello! I will join in and be counted. I am Judy, 49 y.o.,living in the
Boston area. Currently working on a bulls-eye wallhanging and my always in
progress GFG. I have been obsessed by the quilting bug for nearly 5 years!
Judy
I am Lu, 38 years old, mom to Gillian and Meghan (7 and 6) and have 6-7
in-progress UFOs. Main project is a queen sized sampler scrap quilt that I
am using to learn new techniques and experiment with design. One of those
"close your eyes and grab a handful of scraps" challenges. Need
to put the last border, decide if I am going to appliqué
anything on it and then back, quilt (machine) and bind it. I am creeping
up on actually completing it. Guilty of almost nice weather in Berkeley
CA, :O}. Lu
I'm Lisa, 34 years old and I live south of Houston although Im
originally from Kansas City. I've been quilting for 7 years. I'm currently
in school finishing up pre-requisites for a bachelor's
degree program (nursing) that I hope to start in August. I haven't had
time to sew lately, but I started a journal and find that I have 15 WIP's/UFO's
to get finished up. My sewing room is in a shambles due to mold damage in
the closet that my husband still hasn't found the time to finish
repairing. About two-thirds of my stash is sitting tight in a storage
unit down the street. I may have to take up drywalling before I can have
my sewing space back!
I will be 64 (good grief!!) next month. I am working on the third of
five quilts for my grandsons. The top is done and I'll be machine quilting
it on my regular sewing machine. Several women in the guild I belong to
have long arm machines and do wonderful machine quilting, which I find
quite difficult to do on a regular sewing machine. After finishing the
grandson quilts I plan to do more hand quilting. It sounds cold all over
the midwest, and it sure is here in Minnesota. Donna
Hi, I'm 59, and have been quilting for a number of years. Right now I'm
working on my UFO"S one is a blue and yellow quilt, working on the
last border, and the next one is Storm At Sea , by the sq in a sq method.
This will be the last quilt I do that way as I feel you cut away too much
fabric. It sure is cold here in Mn. this A.M. was 20 to 30 below zero with
the wind chill. Nice to have quilts to cover up with. Janice
Hi, My name is Rose and I am 47 and live in beautiful Missoula, Mt.
where we finally had our first big snowstorm of the year yesterday...sad,
but true. I've got 4 more blocks to finish for an exchange group I'm in, I
have 2 ½ blocks left and my Millenium Garden will be all done, I've got
gobs of WIPS and I swear I could start 3 more tonight, my brain is
spinning with ideas. I'm dying to get doing about 4 different things with
all my reproduction fabrics and I have tons of 9-patches-
primitive,Christmas and repros- calling me to make several quilts with.
One of my New Years Resolutions is no more exchange groups until I get a
bunch of quilts made with all the stuff I've already got! I've been
quilting about 20 years, but out of control about the last 15 years. Love
to hear all these roll calls!
I'm Marnie, and I'm fifty, I have been quilting for approximately 12-15
years and I'm working on a quilt for the Ultimate Quilt Guild Challenge
for AQS in Nashville this year. I also just finished a class withYvonne
Porcella today that was very exciting, and I have a class with Margaret
Miller tomorrow and Saturday.
Hi I am Berit 45 currently in Poland. I am anxiously waiting for my
Kameleon pattern to arrive so I can start sewing. In the meantime I pull
out fabrics that I think I might use, and sew a little on my hand sewing
project which is Japanese folded patchwork.
I'm Gail and 67 year old. I am concentrating on finishing. I am working
on guild bloks, scrappy crossing usng Thimbleberries, and trying to finish
quilting cut glass dishes for our April show. Gail from cold, cold
Michigan
I'm Alexandra, 35 year old, living in the Los Angeles area. My main
project right now, if you can call it that since I seem to be on a
multi-tasking kick, is an 8" quilt with a city theme that I'm doing
as a challenge from another list. What I should be working on is a
sunflower quilt that I entered in our guild's show next month that's only
half-quilted so far.
I'm Jan, 55. My main project right now is a block exchange quilt made
with two sets of blocks (Oddfellows Chain & Basket of Lilies) in 19th
century reproduction fabrics. It came out
beautiful, if I do say so myself! I'm hand quilting it all over with
"elbow quilting" on a small floor frame I bought last summer. I
work on it every morning with my second cup of coffee. Just pop one of my
CD's into the player, and when the music is finished, I have to stop for
the day. Keeps me working at it steadily but not burning out. I've been
working on it for a couple of months and it's already about 2/3 quilted -
I'd forgotten how quickly even a big quilt can be finished when you do a
little every day.
My name is Barb, I'm 60 yrs. old, a quilter for 25 years and live in
Pasco, WA where we are having our first sunny day for this year. It is
also almost 60 degrees today which is about 20 degrees above normal. I am
working on the last 12" of hand quilting the border of a hand appliqué
wall hanging made from some of the designs in the book Natures Chorus This
project has been going on for almost 2 years. I also have a queen sized
quilt over at the shop for long arm quilting that features Civil War
repos.Barb
Hi , I'm Wenche from Norway, 34 years old... and I'm currently working
on a quilted bag designed for a pattern magazine...besides that I have
several UFOs and new projects, but never enough time!happy quilting!
Hi, I'm Janell, 65 years. I've been quilting for about 7 years and have
several UFOs. I am still doing some red work and I am looking forward to
having cataract surgery and clearer eye sight so I can finish a few of
those UFOs.
Hola! I'm a 66-year-old Pittsburgher and live in Madrid, Spain. I have
to import my fabric - while there are now some quilt shops here, they have
almost exclusively fabric imported from the States and it's cheaper to do
it myself. I have been quilting for... hmm, maybe 15 years or so, and
don't really want to think about how many UFO's I have. At the moment I'm
just finishing a vehicle quilt for my grandson.
Shaela who is 59 and freezing in Canada: MINUS 39 degrees Celsius!! For
those trying to convert- minus 40 degrees Celsius is the same as 40 below
F. Whatever scale you use, it was darned cold!! Working on old, old UFO's
and hand quilting a hand pieced fan quilt. Next month I must start a King
size Star Log Cabin so I can get it to the long arm quilter. I booked a
space last October! Any suggestions on a warm holiday spot? We feel the
need to get away.
Hi bees, I am 26 with 20 years of experience! and have been quilting
those 20 years too! Many big tops in my collection so next month I plan on
taking a class on using the long arm machine to quilt them. Then I can
rent the machine and get them done. Also working on finishing up the other
tops in progress and enlarging some of the other tops by having round
robins with myself. I don't want all the matching fabric gone before I am
ready to get them bound so I sorted out any matching fabric that I will
need to enlarge and / or bind. Sure feels good!
I'm 65, live in Massachusetts - where the wind chill today is 20 below.
Time to quilt some more. And I told you about my most recent projects -
but not what I'm planning next. I'm working up the courage to do a Karen
Combs Illusion quilt. I've always loved Escher paintings and her 3-D
quilts remind me of them. So I'm planning a teal green twin size. Nancy
Eddy
I am Barbara Whatley with 38 years to my name. My current project is a
Balitmore Album quilt. Thank goodness for applique in our busy lives where
we can take it out and about with us!
This is Dixie in Austin, TX, where it was in the 80'sWednesday and the
40's Thursday! I'm on the center block of my Roseville Applique quilt,
appliquing a Hawaiian quilt top, and working on class samples for three
newclasses.
I am Rita from Maryland and I'm 53. I have no project at this time. I
was in an automobile accident in December and my eyes were injured. I
can't see too well right now so everything is on hold.
Hello there. I would like to join in the roll call. I am Tess, 43 years
of age, living in Maine near Popham Beach. I am currently working on a
crazy quilt, and "Old Glory" (from Blackbird Designs Summer
Weekend Book) and making applique blocks for a sampler quilt. I am now at
about 5 years quilting myself and love applique best. I am accumulating
fabrics for Jacobean Rhapsody --- and I have a zillion Pat Sloan WIP as
well. I am so hooked.
My name is Karen, I'm 50, I live in central Arkansas were it has been
very cold the last several days. I handquilt and mostly handpiece for
somewhere close to 15-20 years I guess, I have lost track. I have 3
projects that i'm working on right now, a postage stamp quilt of my own
design that is part way quilted and is on my floor standing three roller
frame, and I'm in the process of hand quilting a small wall hanging for
one of my daughters for her birthday it is a still life that I designed
from a greeting card that she gave me for last mother's day, it is a very
simple scene, a vase on a table with one branch of white blossoms on it.
I am 41 I live in Missouri. I am working on UFO's Julianne
Susan in very frozen northern Wisconsin. I am the empress of the
UFO--haven't finished anything in then years. Some of the UFO's I have are
baby quilts for my daughter (33) and grandkids 16,11, and 3. A couple of
Y2K quilts, one for my dh, and some from block swaps I did several years
ago.
I am 53 yo and have been quilting for eons. I enjoy making
"utility" quilts. I usually make children's quilts or lap size
quilts in primary colors I call them crayon colors. I put in a low loft
batting and a robe velour (non-flammable) backing. These are quite warm
and as my 7 yo grandson says, "snuggly, just like my Ya-ma". I
have three of these quilts cut out and ready to "build" as DH
says. Since I have made all the nieces, nephews and grandchildren their
quilts, lap size and twin bed size to accommodate their sizes and ages, I
can move onto these darlings that I am going to donate to our local
women's shelter. Nothing fancy, strip quilting, but cuddly. I do have a
couple of UFO's but they are not as high priority as these three for the
shelter. It is damp and cold in No. Calif about 60 miles north of San
Francisco. We finally saw the sun, yesterday for about 20 minutes after 5
days of solid gloom. Barbara, No. Calif.
Hi - I'm Joy, from Indiana. My husband and I are in central Florida
for the winter right now, and it's to be in the 20 tonight. I'm 65,
and have been quilting since my great-aunt taught me at 13.
Presently working on GFG, which is English Paper Pieced and I'm
cutting the papers (someone asked me why?). Also have two flannel
quilts that I'm working on for granddaughter's graduation and
niece's graduation from high school, and an appliqued ring of
flowers from a class I took here in Florida. Happy
Hi, I'm Karen in central Arkansas, I'm 50 and I've been quilting for
somewhere between 15-20 years. I hand piece most of the time occasionally
machine piece if I'm in a hurry but always hand quilt. I love doing hand
work. I am currently working on three projects, a postage stamp quilt of
my own design is on my quilting frame and I'm also quilting a small
wallhanging - a still life - that I designed from a greeting card that my
daughter gave me for mother's day - the wallhanging is a present for her
30th birthday next month. I am piecing a wall hanging also for my dear
son-in-law who is currently away from home stationed in South Korea for a
year (only 1 month into that year right now) it is a photo wall hanging.
Nine pics of my younger daughter and the two little ones in the center
with red sashing and a border of red/white/blue stars around for the
borders. I'm working on that one most of the time so I can finish it
quickly to get it sent to him.
Hi. I'm Lori from Virginia. I'm 45 and have been quilting for about 15
years. I'm currently in the process of moving, so I don't have much time
to quilt. I have lots and lots of UFO's to be done, though. So many
quilts, so little time.
I am 61 years old and have been quilting for over 17 years. Right now I
am working on trying to complete UFO's. I have so many I am afraid to
count them. I will be starting a new mystery quilt with my guild next
month so I have told myself I cannot start anything until I finish a
couple of UFO's. At least that is what I say right now. I also have a GFG
that is folded up behind my dresser that was started at least 10 years ago
and has a lot of quilting that still needs to be done. Maybe in another
life time. I don't even like the fabric I used for the garden. I would
rather be quilting on a whole cloth quilt than bring that out from behind
my dresser. Thanks again for the answers I got on my antique quilt that
was bearding. Yes I did forget to mention that the batting is wool. Stella
in So. S.F. where the weather is nice.
Hey there! I'm Sarah and I'm 35. I've been quilting about 12 years but
seriously for the past 6. I'm starting to branch out in wearables. I
recently made a sweatshirt jacket. I used one of my husband's and cut it
up the sleeves and the front. Then I sewed little pieces of fabric and
some blocks all over. I finished it by randomly stitching with different
colored threads all over before sewing it back up. It is so warm which we
need now as it 12 degrees here. Brrr!!!
Hello, My name is Linda and I've been quilting for over 20 years.
Current projects are a 4 patch baby quilt, a rail fence kit I'm
making up for my grand daughter in Florida who has caught the sewing
bug plus I have 2 quilts basted and ready to be quilted. I'm 54
years old and live in Arizona.
Brrrr, this is Carreen in cold Alberta. I am 54, although I still think
of myself as being 29! I am waiting for Spring Rhapsody, designed by
Robert Callaham, to come back from the long arm quilters. I had a time
booked for January, only to have my husband ask me to make a 'real' (bed
sized as opposed to wall hanging) quilt. A colleague is taking early
retirement and moving away. He and his wife are good friends so we will
miss them. DH has taken my words to heart and thinks that a quilt will be
like a hug for them. Unfortunately he tells me this mid-December, and the
farewell 'do' is February 01. Nothing like a deadline is there?
I'm Moira and I'm here in Phoenix. I'm 44 and the two top most quilty
things that I'm doing at the moment are getting the top for my art quilt
done (it's for an art quilt challenge) so it can go to the quilter on feb.
4th. Am also getting everything finished up for a BOM that I'm developing
to teach the 13-yr old daughter of a very good friend to quilt. She will
start working on it the second week in Feb. and I need to get my sample
blocks done yet for the first month or two.
Great idea! My name is Gail and I am 60 years old. Have been quilting
since the 70's. Currently designing a baby quilt for a new granddaughter
expected in May. Gail in South Texas where it is predicted to be 20's
tonight and sunny 40's in the day
I'm 54 years young and live in frigid Milford, Ohio where I'm loving my
hobby - quilting!! I just finished an Aunt Amy's Bullseye made from
brights on a black background which turned out awesome. My Winter Log
Cabin needs to be layered and basted so I can drape it across my lap and
quilt in the evening for the rest of the winter. It will have an
individual snowflake in each square (72 of them!) Hopefully I'll get it
completed for next winter. And I have to prepare my class quilts by March
1st so they can be on display in the quilt shop for potential students to
enjoy. Almost too much to do!! It will be fun working on everything.
I'm Kasey - 52 years old and VERY cold in North Carolina! Recently, I
rotary cut pieces for a *very* bright flannel yellow brick road quilt. I
especially like working with flannel - it seems to make a warm, fuzzy
quilt even warmer and fuzzier! Have not begun to piece it together yet.
This is interesting to see what everyone else is working on.
I am Su Vernon, just turned 54 three days ago. For Christmas I got a
Z44 Grace frame. Love It! I'm working on grandchildren's baby quilts. I's
very slow the first of five went out when she was 4 1/2 years old, the
second should be done soon. Here in the middle of Utah we are in a drought
and have not had snow yet.
I'm Elaine and I'm 46 years old living on Vancouver Island which is
about as far west as you can go in Canada. Right now it's about 11 degrees
celcius and pouring with rain. It's not cold out there, many people are
wearing shorts and t-shirts with a raincoat and of course the usual west
coast garb of socks with Birkenstocks. Currently I'm working on a small
wallhanging with a folded fabric kimono and three dimensional flowers
along the border as well as I'm doing a fat quarter exchange with a group
of friends. I won't say how many UFO's I have in the closet but there's
enough there to keep me busy for several years.
I am Dale Anne, will be 49 in June, and I am currently cleaning my
sewing area so that I can continue working on 3 Comfort Quilts. Dale Anne
in central Saskatchewan
Amy is my name and applique is my game! Seriously, my name is Amy and I
live in Columbia, MO. I'm 53 and have been sewing since I was about 6
years old, but I didn't start quilting until about 6 years ago. I grew up
watching my mother quilt for utilitarian purposes. She never had a UFO or
WIP! Wish I could follow her example. Currently, I am finishing up hand-appliquing
black bias tape leading on pillow tops that are for wedding gifts. I also
am hand-quilting a stained glass iris wall hanging, which is actually for
me! I just joined a group that makes items for preemies and babies in need
so I'll start working on small quilts and other layette items as soon as I
get the current projects out the door.
Hi all.A0 I am Debbi, 48 years old.A0 I have been quilting for about 12
ye ars. I am currently working on a jacket that is made from small quilts,
baby quilts for project Linus and several projects that have been in
progress for far too long.A0 I am also trying to get up the nerve to
put some of the top s onto the Handiquilter and turn those into finished
quilts.A0 Debbi in Cold, Snowy and windy Binghamton NY
My name is Claire and I live in Bangkok, Thailand, but am orginally
from upstate NY. I have been quilting for about 6 years. My
current project is a bluework botanical quilt from Betty Alderman's
<U>Redwork Designs.</U> There are several UFO's that I need to
complete and I am trying to design a "Thailand" quilt. Love this
list and have learned so much from reading all the posts.
Hi, I'm Marianne turning 40 tomorrow and not dealing too well with
that. I live in Limerick, PA, about 30 miles outside of Philadelphia and
wishing I were watching the Eagles in the Super Bowl! However, I have been
quilting now for about 10 years and got into it by learning about the ABC
Quilt Project where I used to work. My friends got into quilting and I
didn't want to be left behind. ;-)
I'm Rosemary from Panama City Beach, Florida, middle of the Panhandle
where it will go down to 14E tonight...brrrrrr...Will
be 65 on my next birthday....
Hi Bees, I am 48 and live in Arizona I am a new quitter but have
sewn for years sense I was 4or 5 I have a couple quilts to finish
and have started Lauren's Flowers quilt by Cindy Hamilton its partly
cut but I have to wait as I am making my daughter's wedding gown.
last one to leave the nest so I should have lots of time to quilt
after April. Its apx 65 degrees in bouse Arizona today
I am 60 and have been quilting for 7 years. I am almost caught up on my
UFOs, and only have 4 left. But I am about to start several new projects,
so I will never be caught up. Betsy in Montana, where we have 10 inches of
new snow this week.
Hi Bees.....it's fun to read about the group. I am 63 and have enjoyed
quilting for a very long time....even in the days of polyester! My
great-grandmother made a quilt for my doll carriage and used to tie the
knots in my embroidery thread so that my knots would pass my grandmother's
close inspection 'cause mine were terrible. (Still are!) One of my
daughters is enjoying her making first quilt and I have been teaching my
granddaughters to quilt......must be in the genes! I am finally beginning
to hand quilt a 15 month block-of-the-month quilt that I saw at a local
shop....it has been a real challenge, but worth it. And I am also working
on a redwork wall hanging. And lots of other ideas that will eventually
work their way into fabric..... It has been really cold here in the
Philadelphia area and a great excuse to stay busy quilting! Anne
My name is Lynn Parker and I'm 53. I live in the northern part of
Louisiana. Been quilting for 7 years, and work on all size quilts. My
favorite type is applique, but all types of quilting. I do handquilting
mostly.
My name is Jean from Eastern Washington. I am working on an applique
challenge block that I will take to the Elly Sienkiewicz Applique Academy
in February in Williamsberg, Va. I can hardly wait!!!
My name is Nancy and I am 46 today. I have been quilting since I was
about 10(learned at my mother's knee). I have a list of UFO's on the
bulletin board in my sewing room that I am trying to complete this year
and it has 13 with 1 finished already. I am currently working with 4
friends on Dear Jane quilts. Mine is using Civil War repros. We are very
cold here in northeast Mississippi. It was 3 this morning and I don't know
what it was with the wind chill factored in. We are not used to this kind
of weather.
I'm 39 (several times over). I'm finishing up a bug quilt (not a jar
quilt). Looks like I will need to add some large bug sillouettes to
add some spark to it. It looked very cute when crib sized, but
enlarged to full size, I guess it needs more. Take care, Stephanie
My name is Rose. I'm 49 years old and live in North Huntingdon, PA, not
too far from Pittsburgh. And it is definitely too cold here too although
it's supposed to warm up and reach the mid 20's tomorrow :-)
Cyndi, 57, checking in from Maine........coldest January in recent
memory! As long as I feed wood to my Glenwood cookstove, she keeps me
warm!! Have been quilting since the Seventies and have owned my quilt shop
since 1990..........have MANY WIPs because I need to make lots of display
samples.......hard decision each day to decide what to work on! Also have
a "stalled" Dear Jane that I am hand-piecing! During the
evenings, I handquilt on my flying geese strippy made with reproduction
fabrics. Next handquilting project will be my English medallion-style made
with Dargate Doubles 1830 French dressgoods reproductions.
Hello I am Cathy, in Michigan. I am 42 years old. I really love
quilting. Very cold here stay warm.
I'm Sandra checking in from SE Arizona where it's in the high 60's
today! I'm 59 years old and have been quilting for over 20 years. In
recent years I've been doing appliqué
projects-some are my own design. Right now I trying to complete some
UFO's.
KathyB reporting in from SE Michigan where I always seem to be looking
forward to the next season. It's been too cold too long and I'm anxiously
awaiting the first signs of spring. I'm 51 and aging rapidly! <<gr>>
I have a few things in progress. I'm finishing up a wallhanging and
Quilter's Garden by Thimbleberry, a BOM queen size quilt and my newest
project a Dear Jane.
I retired and transplanted in 1985 from Anderson/Pendleton,Indiana to
Central Florida. Started Quilting in 1986. I do piecing and applique, hand
and machine quilting. I learned quilting by hand as machine work was just
beginning to flourish.Machine is now the quickest way to piece. I always
have several projects going at the same time. Always have handwork ready
to grab as I go out the door along with a book to read. I listen to books
on tape or instrumental music while sewing on the sewing machine. Active
in Applique Society chapter locally , Creative Quilters of CitrusCo. Fl.,
West Pasco Quilters, Sunshine State Quilters Association. I have lived a
full 73years of busy life . I like quilt shows and symposiums and taking
classes. I sewed clothing before quilting and have tried about every kind
of handwork except tatting. Geneva
I'm 53 and from Logansport, Indiana. I'm just now pulling my quilting
essentials back out after the holidays and a very busy January. Right now
I'm getting things ready for a retreat next weekend at Shipshewana,
Indiana. One of the projects I will be working on is a quilt called
Rasberry Truffle made of hundreds of half-square triangles, so I've been
cutting a lot of brown, pink and cream squares. Debbie
Hi Bees,> I decided to check in. My name is Pat and I >liive

Val in Winnipeg where it's so cold, so cold
I am Pam, age 53 in a very cold and snowy Alliance, Ohio. My daughter
is hoping for a snow day tomorrow. (I am hoping for school). I've been
trying to catch up on everything, an impossible task, so I can sew. My
sewing machine has been packed away since Christmas, I am ready now to
just start sewing and ignore things undone. I will probably just start to
assemble some Linus quilts from scraps. Something easy until inspiration
strikes. I have been quilting since 1980 or so.
I just joined. I am 50, a teacher with 2 kids. I have not been doing
much due to 4 month old grandson that lives here (with his mom). I live in
the southeast section of Michigan. I have been quilting since about the
mid-70's. I used to be the 'queen' of the small stuff. Just knew I would
never hand-quilt a full-size quilt. Now I am trying to finish up all the
ufos from classes, mysteries, etc. that I got far enough done so that I
could pretty much see what it would look like. Thank goodness I have found
a good machine quilter! Rhonda in Armada, MI
Hi, I am Sharon B. from Muncie Indiana. I am 42 years old, and have
been quilting steadily since 1996. I learned back in the late 80's, did
two quilts, and stopped until I got inspired again during a trip to Asia.
I am currently finishing handquilting a small piece for my husband who is
also a quilter (he made it with antique blocks, and while he doesn't mind
machine sewing he hates handquilting so I do his handwork). I am also
thinking about working on my own UFOs. And, someday I will actually get
into Quiltmakers in Fishers, In at the same time the famous Carol the
Quilter is working!
Please include me in your roll call. My name is Helen; I've been
quilting for about 15 years; made quilts for all the children (7)
grandchildren (3) and beginning some for the great grandchildren(3) I am
73 y/o and will be 74 y/o in February. Current quilt is "Jacob's
Ladder" which I started at a quilt retreat in the summer - very
scrappy colors, and I love it!! I only kept one quilt for myself; I take a
picture of my quilts before I give them away so I can remember what they
looked like. I find it hard to give a quilt away because I have become so
attached - but then I start on the next one and - bingo - I'm hooked
again. Helen in very cold Western New York State
My name is Chris, I'm 37 and have been quilting about 10 years. I live
in Tacoma, Washington, where it is pretty wet and gray, but not too cold.
As with everyone else, I'm working on a number of things at once. I
finished table runners and wall hangings for quite a few good friends and
family for Christmas, but still have the table runner for me to finish up
and store with the other Christmas decorations for next year. I'm
trying to find the perfect quilting design to finish machine quilting a
twin size "blended quilt" style quilt. And the biggest challenge
is to finish piecing the top (almost there) of a queen size double wedding
ring quilt in blues and greens that was a wedding present for a close
friend who was married several months ago. I guess she can't complain -
she chose the pattern! I have a two and half year old who loves to look at
fabric and patterns (not too bad for a little boy). He wants me to start
the monsters quilt that is popular at a number of shops right now. I
haven't done much applique, so that might be a good learning experience.
Hi, I'm Shiras age 62 and live in Maryland. I've been seriously
quilting since I retired 7 years ago. My good news is that the cast is
finally off my right wrist. The bad news is that I will need physical
therapy to get it back to useful. I could do some sewing - machine only -
during the late stages of the cast and managed to get a scrappy top pieced
(Faceted Jewels by Glad Creations). I have a huge list of UFOs but many of
them are hand applique which I can't manage as yet. So... I'll just pick
another of the tops to be pieced and get busy on it.
My name is Pam. I am 50 years old. I live in Greenfield, Indiana just
east of Indianapolis. I have been quilting only 5 years, but have
discovered that I love applique and am attempting to hand quilt a
King-sized Dresden Plate quilt I finished piecing 2 years ago. I have many
quilting friends here...they are all experts and have had needles in their
hands since they were old enough to pick one up. They have taught me
everything!!!
Hi, My name is Mary Franklin Fulghum (Southern double name). I am
almost 57 years old and are now working on a row-by-row BOM quilt called
Country Village. The first row just came via snail mail.
My name is Dini ( age 57) and I live in a little village called Ermelo,
in the Netherlands. I am trying to get all my UFO's finished. Taking a
course for machine quiting will probably a great help. But I have to start
new quilts for my grandchildren. ( 3 sons, 1 daughter) I like to
work at different things at the same time, but sometimes I have to
much things on my hand.
My name is Linda, I'm 50 and the fabric for a Christmas quilt to be
finished by next Christmas is laying out on my ironing board. My son has
been pestering me for a quilt big enough for his queen-size bed. That will
be #2.
Hi! My name is Kathy. Am 60 years old, recently retired after 28 years
as an Extension secretary. Belonged to the original 'QuiltBee' group
almost from its conception. Since retiring, have been cutting out some
quilts, organizing the STASH, spending time with the Gkids and pretty much
doing exactly what I feel like. What a change!
My name is Michelle, and I am 37 years old. I live in Geelong,
Victoria, Australia. The weather the last couple of days has been
horrific. Today in particular - very, very hot. Our state capital has had
the second hottest day on record. But it has cooled down tonight. We are
also having some bad bushfires in the north of our state, and also New
South Wales and around Canberra. We seem to be continually covered in
smoke even though the fires are hundred's of miles away. I'm not really
working on anything quilty at the moment. I have plenty of UFO's to do and
a few new projects I've been thinking of starting. I always find it hard
to get motivated this time of the year. Usually to hot to sew. But school
goes back next week so I should have a bit more time then. I've been
quilting since 1994, when I lived in Northville, MI for 12 months and took
some quilting lessons. I had actually started a hexagon quilt when I was
12, and had always wanted to do more but never had the time until we lived
there. And I've been hooked ever since. It has been great reading about
everybody and hearing about where you are all from.
Hi, I'm Barbara in Virginia, where it's also been very cold! I am 49
years old, did occasional quilts for about 26 years along with clothes
sewing became a quiltaholic about 3 years ago, after cross stitch got
boring. I am finishing a blue-work, hand quilted kewpie quilt, and am now
machine quilting on my Stars in the Garden by Piece O Cake. Many other
UFOs, and many more in my mind!
Hello quilters. I think I am the oldest ( so far ) quilter to join this
roll call. My name is Greta, and
I live somewhat north of Toronto, Canada. I am 76, married 56 yrs to
the same man.
Just finished a batch of baby quilts for the pregnancy crisis center
locally. I've been experimenting making mock cathedral window patterns for
those. That did not work out too well using the serger, but it certainly
speeded up the process. I taught quilting (among other crafts ) in
Montreal long long ago before there were many books on the subject of
quilting,- and way before rotary cutters ! I think I would go quite mad if
I did not have quilting to do. I lived thro the bombing of London in the
2nd world, and pray that we do not have another war.
Hi I'm Muriel, I'll be 44 on the 9th of Feb...Yikes!! I'm trying
to finish my husbands Christmas flannel quilt.
I'm Janice, 62, in Northern Virginia where it's sunny and 32 degrees,
almost a "heat wave" after the past few days. I've been trying
to quilt for about five years, have a nice stash and lots of UFOs,
patterns and plans. But right now genealogy seems to be taking up most of
my time. Both hobbies are addictive!
Hello, I'm Laurette Carroll, 57 years old, from California. Right now
I'm trying to organize (clean) my sewing room and am planning a small
quilt for my 2 year old grand daughter who loves Snow White, she
pronounces it "no whi". I came across the Disney Snow White
fabrics and immediately thought of her, and bought 3 different prints. My
name is Linda, I'm 50 and live in Nebraska where we've really needed
quilts to keep warm lately. At least it's supposed to be cold here in the
winter as opposed to Florida where it's been in the teens in places. I've
been quilting since about 1972 when I made a Grandmothers Flower Garden on
the sewing machine from a homemade pattern because I saw a picture in a
magazine and liked it so much. I didn't know it's not considered a
beginners pattern and certainly not on the sewing machine!! <big
grin> I haven't done a lot of quilting lately. I stumbled into
genealogy last spring and it take time. I'm also the director at our small
town library and like to read a lot of those new books. :) Right now I
have fabric laid out on the ironing board for next years Christmas quilt,
several UFOs piled up, and several sacks containing the fabrics for quilts
I want to make. That's in addition to a really good stash. Maybe I should
start calling myself a "fabric collector" instead of a quilter.
Seems closer to the truth sometimes.
Marilyn here in No. Nevada, where it's warm for January - 58 degrees at
2 PM. Another week or two and we'll be back to a high of mid 30s. I've
been quilting for 14 years and sewing since I was 9. Since every one is
being so honest about age, here goes-I'm 53. Making clothes started to be
a drag so I switched to quilts - no altering! Two queen size double
wedding rings, 5 over sized lap quilts, several wall hangings, a queen
sized Sisters Choice in Civil War repro fabrics, an antique-y cake stand
in lots of blue and white scraps and a couple of others I can't remember
of the top of my head are what
I've being doing this last year. Just started to cut out a queen Yellow
Brick Road. I alternate complex projects (like the Mariners Compass I'm in
the middle of) with the easier patterns. Keeps me from overloading.
My name is Ethel, 74, and I have been addicted to quilting for about 10
years. I live in Colorado, near Denver, where we have been having an
unusually mild winter. I just signed up for classes at the LQS to make a
BOM, a Baltimore Album type quilt. I haven't done much applique before so
this will be a real challenge for me. I am just finishing quilting a baby
quilt, then will start hand quilting a queen size whole cloth quilt. In
between I hope to get some of my manyUFO's finished. Ethel in
Colorado
I am Debbie S., 53, and live southwest of Pittsburgh, PA. I've been
quilting about 5 years now. My crochet hooks and knitting needles are
stored away in a closet along with my needlepoint supplies, probably to
never see the light of day again...quilting rules! :)
My name is Helen Cal and I am 59 yrs old. I live in Los Angeles
where the temperature has been great. I have been a quilter for
about 5 years. Right now I have fabric and am trying to get
remotivated now that Christmas has passed. My next project will be a
scrappy quilt?
Hello everyone, I am Jan age 62, and I have been quilting since 1981
although I made a few blocks in the seventies. I live in SW Colorado and
spend my winters in NW Arizona not far from Las Vegas, where my DH mines
for gold.
My name is Judy, age 62 and just moved to the edge of the Ozarks..doing
alot of remodel to a house and finally feel I can take a break to get some
quilting done ! I machine piece and hand quilt.
I am 52 years old and have lived in Ohio most of my life. I'm better at
starting projects than finishing them, and while I consider myself a
quilter my main hobby must be fabric collecting. I think I must buy a yard
for every inch that I use. Make that 2 yards if there is a sale. After
buying the fabric my favorite part of quilting is the piecing, my least
favorite is ripping out mistakes. I belong to 1 guild and I work full time
nights (11pm to 7:30 am). I have 2 unmarried sons in college, 1 DH, and 1
cat. DS#1 is also in the Ohio National Guard and is not taking classes
this semester because he expects to be called up on active duty. I pray
for this war scare to blow over, but I don't expect it. Jane in NE Ohio
I'm Sue, I'm 67 and live in the Washington, DC suburbs. I've been a
quilter for about 25 years - tho do fade in and out from time to time. At
the moment, I've faded in and am working on two doll quilts, a wall
hanging and reading the dozen or so quilt books I've bought recently. Also
collect antique quilts, especially old doll quilts.
Nancy in Kansas City. I am finishing a Stack-n-whack fan quilt, a huge
Southwest with various southwest fabrics utilizing designs on the
embroidery machine and I just started next year's Christmas quilt for our
son in the Marines, a blue and white featured on the cover of the latest
Traditional Quiltworks magazine.
I'm Pat in snowy, but not that cold right now, Washington state. I'm
60, and feeling it right now, fell down the icy steps last week. Been told
I'm not a quilted, I'm a Topper. Love to make the tops, but not quilt
them. Have many UFO's, trying to whittle them down. Have a list of 4 that
I concentrate on for a month or two and have finished 7 things on the list
since Oct. Sometimes that is just to make a back and take it to the
quilter. So then it goes back on the list as bind.
Hi--I'm Sheila, 56 yrs old. living in the foothills of NC and have only
been quilting 8 yrs, but a fabricholic all my years!! Little got done last
yr due to cancer treatments, but am getting stronger every day and soon
will be shopping in Mary-Jo's. I want to share true friendship with you
who will understand---When my best friend of 50 yrs (back in NH) learned I
was too weak to go fondle fabric, she went to her local store and enlisted
the help of the salesgirls. They had a wonderful time selecting fabrics
and I got a welcome squishy in the mail. I'm contemplating what block to
make into pillow covers for myself and her. Now keep in mind, Martha knows
absolutely nothing about sewing/quilting except the time involved in a
project, but sure knows how to cheer a buddy!!! I receive the digest and
rarely have any input that hasn't already been offered, but sure do enjoy
my daily visits with all of you. All the best~Sheila in Long Island, NC
I am 61 years old and have been quilting for 2 years. I love this web
site and learn so much from each one who contributes...thanks. In these
two short years I have managed to accumulate quite a few UFO's and am
determined to complete most of them this year. I am currently working on
stipple quilting (by machine) a Yellow Brick Road quilt for one of my
grandsons. When I finish that I am going to work on a quilt made with
retro fabrics (a kit)...I can't wait to get started on that!! Oops, I
guess those UFO's will have to wait around a little longer. We are having
a cold, but rather snow free, winter here in the Chicago, Illinois area.
